Now that's the conversation we had at work.  Co-worker was trying to
upgrade to a faster Mac for her mom, because she'd picked up a scanner that
wouldn't run on her 7100.  She said "I was told she should have at least a
G3 to do any desktop publishing."

I said "How do you think they did it before G3s?"  The fact of the matter
is that desktop publishing was developed on pretty basic machines.  I can
see that you might need more speed, if you're web browsing or run a
business.  If you're just doing this stuff for yourself, you really don't
need a faster machine or a newer OS.

Most folks really don't use their machines for that much.
