I'd say, there's no (or almost no) equivalent thing as kppp under GNOME.
My guess is, almost all GNOME core developers have permanent connection,
and they never looked back and see the need of a modem dialer :-/

Actually I'd suggest gnome-network be removed from cooker, it's just a
bunch of dead code :-)
