The download edition should not fail at this point, new users won't evaluate any further when they find they have no gui.

Per,not really as the nvidia driver is third party, if you were to use the nv driver that comes with the download edition or used personal edition or any of the other ones that comes with the nvidia driver you would'nt run into a problem, this is more of a license issue:\
thank you for the information.
This means the XF86Config-4 file is kept when upgrading? I simply
ignored that. However this is a problem since GeForce cards are rather
common stuff and none of them will work anymore after updating.
This is worth a bug.

After updating mdk9.0 to 9.1 the drivers for GeForce2 cards are unusable -> No X. Solved this by using "fbdev", getting the drivers from nvidia.com and reinstall them. I think the correct driver should have been "svga" in the download edition and "nvidia" in the commercial package.

no, nv is the correct driver in the download edition, the reason X won't start is that the (third party) kernel module no longer will load since it's compiled against the old kernel, solve this by recompiling it - -- Regards, Per Øyvind Karlsen Sintrax Solutions http://www.sintrax.net - +47 41681061 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (GNU/Linux)
