    Jim, look in the Ercoupe Service Bulletins book (available from
Skyport and Univair) for the fuel
system diagram.  There were different systems, depending on the serial
number of the airplane.
    I assume when you say "main tank" you mean the header tank, between
the windshield and the engine.
If so, it has no float valve.  It is not pressurized.  It has a stand pipe
with an open top, so when
the fuel pump pumps enough fuel to fill the header tank, the extra fuel
flows down the stand pipe and
back to one of the wing tanks.  There is a crossover fuel line between the
two wing tanks that runs
through the fuselage to keep the wing tanks equal.
