I agree, Sid. I see no problem resulting from running the mechanical pump dry....HOWEVER, some electric pumps actually use the fuel,as a lubricant/coolant for the pump.... This may not be true for aircraft type pumps, but is a concern... in automotive systems if the pressure fails, the pump turns off.
