It dissolves oils well, which also means the lanolin your skin goes. Josephine the Palmolive lady wouldn't approve at all. I've had some really nasty sore hands after cleaning things with Dawn for an extended period. IMHO it's as nasty on the hands as paint thinner and other solvents. In fact, I used to use it to wash my hands after getting them oily working on a car, boat, or plane. I've since gone back to Goop waterless hand cleaner because Dawn was just too nasty, as effective as it was.
