There has been an Ercoupe being converted to a Subaru Legacy engine over the last two years at Belen-Alexander Field, Belen, New Mexico. Andy Parker spent a lot of time and actually had the engine mounted and much of the work done but gave up on it a few months ago. His reason for doing it was to develop an STC for the Subaru conversion to the Ercoupe and he had move his Ercoupe into the Experimental category in order to facilitate getting this done quickly. He had hoped, based on some initial discussion with the FAA, to be able to later move it back to Certified status once Engineering was satisfied. Well, it became too much of an ordeal and this very nice start is going to be converted back to O-200 power. Another example of why homebuilts/kitplanes are increasing their numbers.
