We've occasionally taken the wire out of the metal sheath to fix this problem. A couple of times we just put it back while lubricating it. A time or two we've put in a new, stiff wire in (lubricating of course). The sheath may be 50 years old but it still seems to be OK. -- Ed Burkhead East Peoria, Ill. N3802H, 415-D
