Alex- I like the "3 signature rule" and may implement that down the road. Good social incentive for being "part of the community" before being given all the rewards/responsibilities of a community member.

We've been operating in the camp of "human security systems > technical security systems" for a while now. Essentially, in an effort to keep things simple, we're open from 9am-6pm M-F since that's when the MAJORITY of our members work. Full time members, after a 2 week waiting period, have an opportunity to receive keys and the related 24/7 access. The only way to get into Indy Hall after hours is to be a keyholder, or to be there with a keyholder. We recently instituted a "3 signature rule" for new keyholders that requires any new full time member who wants keys to spend enough time with 3 existing full time keyholders that they will sign off on the new member getting keys. This creates strong bonds in the network <http://dangerouslyawesome.com/2010/11/take-interest-dont-fake-interest/> of trust that holds our operations together, gives new members a sometimes-needed excuse to make some new friends, and still gives us the flexibility to grow strong and stable. We dealt with a theft earlier in the year that may have been easier to deal with after the fact if we'd had a security system, but I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't have been prevented in the first place. The only way to prevent it completely, in my opinion, is to introduce strong social systems that always have a watchful eye on operations. -Alex /ah indyhall.org coworking in philadelphia On Mon, Nov 8, 2010 at 2:12 PM, Miamishared <990confere...@miamishared.com> wrote: So currently we are open from 8-5pm on weekdays and 11-12am sat/sun and Holidays. We were actually opening at 9 am but when some members asked to come in at 8 we figured one hr wouldn't hurt. I think though that this might affect us in the future as we are aiming towards having internet companies as members and those members typically work unique schedules. Some work till 4 am or would like to come in whenever. Are there any co working owners who are open 24/7, if so what are your security measures? Is there someone from your team there at all times? I am trying to come up with a solution so that we don't close out any potential members. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Coworking" group.
