Having a live performance during the reading program is a highlight for us. It is money well spent. For us it is really community enrichment more than just entertainment. The interaction between the audience and the performers is something you cannot get from showing movies and that interaction fosters an inquisitiveness that is essential for any kind of learning. Live performances promote an appreciation of the arts. Everyone should have at least one chance in their lifetime to experience a live performance and what better place than your library where unlimited sources of cultural enrichment are at their fingertips. I should think that the City Manager and the Financial Director would be totally supportive of such a positive and popular endeavor and thank you for bringing it to the library for only $200. In our town the politicos like to associate themselves with our programs...it makes them look good. Good luck with getting them to sign the check.
