The downside: your sex life (if any) will be a bit, well, mechanical...
But now imagine an entire society weqring exoskeletons - million of
iron-augmented machomorphs thrashing at each other, safe from damage
but unable to effect change thru violence either. A descent into
chaos! And assassins will need to develop new techniques. Targets
will need to be "accidentally" knocked into pools of electric eels,
or "inadvertantly" bumped into a blast furnace, or something...
Conspiratorialists will decry any attempt to peel the protective suits
from people, as being a govt plot to disarmor law-abiding citizens. And
gang-signs will be etched into the carapaces, so you'll know at a glance
whether anyone you encounter is friend, foe or neutral. Forging and
counterfeiting will abound, of course. Can-openers will be licensed.
