I have never said the Bible is 'manipulative hooey'. I haven't even
said it is 'non-historical', since some parts are indeed historical.

What I've said is that the Bible was written by men, and undergone
translation upon translation...

And each hand that has touched it has put its own prejudices into it,
picking and choosing those parts that fit their own views, tossing out
those that didn't, and actually adding parts where it was deemed
necessary. All because the writers wished to make a point.

So the Bible can't be used as a LITERAL treatise. It's like reading an
old textbook that tells about George Washington as a boy chopping down
his father's cherry tree. Did Washington actually do that? Probably
not. Doesn't change the fact that George Washington was an actual
person. And perhaps he was a very honest person, which the apocryphal
cherry tree tale implies. So there is a SUBJECTIVE truth to the tale,
while there is no OBJECTIVE truth to it.

The Bible can be used as a guide for further research, nothing more.

My point exactly. But the whole PREMISE of the Christian religion is
that Christ was a sacrifice to atone for our collective sins; His life
is meaningless otherwise, as would be the religion founded on it.

> You've got a logical mind - how can one

The same way sacrificing a sheep or a cow did. Perhaps it doesn't make
sense to you, but animal sacrifice was an integral part of Jewish
religion at the time of Christ. It was done to atone for one's sins.

Christ manifested on Earth so that he could be the ultimate sacrifice,
the sacrifice to end all sacrifices. He took on the collective sins of
the world and allowed himself to be sacrificed, thereby washing all the
sins away.

If it doesn't make sense to you, so be it. You're not alone. I'm only
stating what the premise of the religion is.

One can if one is the Son of God, a metaphysical being. According to
Christianity, washing yourself in the blood of The Lamb -- accepting
Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior -- washes away all of your sins.

> I don't even know what it is to be a Christian.

Obviously, else you wouldn't have a problem with the concept of Jesus
having died for our sins...

But the whole concept of 'my path to myself' in non-Christian.
According to Christianity, the only way to true enlightenment is thru
Jesus.
