A reflection on today's Scripture:

Jesus expelled the moneychangers from God's holy temple because their
transactions disturbed the priests in instructing the people and in
conducting their services. Conducting such business had destroyed the
true purpose of the temple as the house of prayers, making it more
like a "den of thieves."

Jesus' actions in driving away business dealings from the house of
worship should be a lesson for us all. Have we become too immersed in
worldy matters? Are we too occupied with media technology, namely
television, telephone, stereo, newspaper and computer? Are our lives
being absorbed in such technology that we have lost track of Jesus?
Jesus' actions are meant to drive away, or reduce, various
distractions in our everyday routines. Simplifying our lives more and
reducing materialism may be a solution; strengthening our
relationship with Jesus may be difficult otherwise.

Let us then take the time to pray to the Holy Spirit for instructions
on how to live a more meaningful spiritual life; let us seek how to
balance our lives so we can form a healthy relationship with God. For
God is our Creator, and we are His children.

            Come, Holy Spirit,
               fill the hearts of the faithful;
enkindle in them the fire of your love.
               Amen.
