A reflection on today's Scripture:
We are fellow citizens -- of the household of God!
St. Paul emphatically assures us that we are the "building", the
church, which had at its foundation the Apostles with Christ Jesus as
its capstone. Each of us in our own individual giftedness is part of
the whole and forms a holy temple, which is to become the dwelling
place of God.
There are no exclusions in the reading from Isaiah; the Lord tells us
that His house will be called a house of prayer for all the people.
To come before the Lord and praise Him is the psalmist's invitation.
Jesus teaches us that before we come before the altar, we must go and
be reconciled with our brother.
If we are indeed the temples of the living God, then how can we act
as if we were walking alone? God inhabits the praises of His people
and every time we care for each other we are glorifying the Lord
Himself. Can each of us be recognized as temples of the living God's
Holy Spirit? Can we be identified as Christians by our love for each
other? If we cannot, then we need to ask God for His power to change,
that we might have at the core of our temple, the heart of Jesus
Himself!
Enkindle in us Lord,
the fire of your love! Amen.
