  It may be but adding external sources should not be the solution. You are
  creating more problems for yourself and others in the long run, for every
  external source that has security vulnerability, you have to as the upstream
  be responsible for providing the fix as well. Take libraw for example, there
  is divergence between the libraw upstream and darktable included variant.
  With the latest security issue related to libraw it is not clear if it is
  fixed or not.

  If darktable is going to be a toy project for some then do whatever you
  want, but at this time of the game it has become mature enough to be
  included in main distros, hence quick fixes for the toy project days should be
  long gone.
