You know that song 'Too many puppies' by Primus? I was confused about
how to simply rotate an image in darkroom so I asked a question about it
just a few minutes ago. This has been explained to me. There is a
seperate Orientation panel next to Rotate and Crop. But why are
orientation and rotation split into two panels? DT has so many panels,
and so many functions and options that overlap, it is really hard for me
to find it easy to work with. It is something I bump into whenever I try
to work with DT again, and I have tried many times in the last few
years. For some people it is no problem to switch between editors, but
for me it is, because I need the software to also work als an image
manager, so I prefer only one editor.
Just this week I did another test. I had trial versions running of
Lightroom and On1 in Windows (inside Virtualbox), and Darktable,
Aftershot Pro and RawTherapee in Linux. Then I edited one and the same
image. I got a very good result and very fast in LR and On1 (even when
running inside Virtualbox) which offer all the basic tools in one view.
Almost everything can be done with those simple tools. Aftershot Pro was
fastest, but lacks image quality and RawTherapee gave me a good image
also, but not as crisp as the others. I'm still working on the image in
Darktable... 😟
I can see that Darktable has a lot of power, but as a professional
photographer I also need it to be quick and intuitive.
Just my thoughts at this moment.
