Understandable..
The short term plan is as follows:
release rc8. I don't think there are any issues currently to hold of
this release. Agreed?
all should be stable in rc8. No changes will get in, except for some fixes.
If rc8 seems stable for 2 weeks, release it as 2.0.0. If minor fixes
have to be made, release rc8 + fixes. If major fixes have to be (not
likely IMHO), hold off release.
Sounds good. I just hope we can stick to the plan this time rather than
letting someone make a bunch of invasive changes during the RC stage
just because they think it's a good idea. I'm not trying to flame here,
I'm trying to highlight that the projects has no formal decision making
process (at least I'm not aware of it). Is there a core committee that
votes? Is there one person who acts as the benevolent dictator? Is any
of this documented anywhere? I know this has been a small project, but I
think it's getting big enough where some of this should be formalized.
Especially as someone pointed out recently, unlike end-user apps, dbmail
is a critical component of people's mail system. Stability is required,
and part of that is people knowing where the project is headed.
Sorry for the rant, I hope it's taken only as constructive criticism.
