It sounds to me like the patch is allocating memory and not full free()ing it at the end of the session...
Ryan, if you can post your patch again, we can give it a quick audit. In the mean time, if this is a configuration that won't work in the standard code without a patch, then let's make sure that patch gets applied to CVS!
