From
what I can gather from various web sites, "The Meadowlands Sports Complex"
opened in 1976 consisting of Giants Stadium and The Meadowlands Racetrack. In
1977 construction began on the "Brendan Byrne Arena" which opened July
2nd, 1981. On January 4, 1996 the naming rights were sold to Continental
Airlines
Although there are numerous mentions of "Meadowlands
Arena" or "Meadowlands Sports Arena" - as the venue was credited on
"Nightfall Of Diamonds" (10/16/89) - I found no evidence to support that
either one of these names was ever an "official" venue designation, as approved
by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.

It was the meadowlands sport
complex and the arena was called meadowlands arena as of 87, or somewhere
around there, but by then that is what it was called...cm

Wasn't the larger complex called the Meadowlands (fancy New
Jersey term for swamp), and the arena was called "the Brendan Byrne Arena at
the Meadowlands"?
Pretty sure that's what they called it when the
Nets played there (and Springsteen, for that
matter).

(except 89). In 83 and 84 it was called Bendan Byrne, 85 I don't remember
and 87, 88 and 89 it was called meadowlands arena. When I went there to see
the other ones in 2000, it was called continental airlines
arena...cm > > ----- Original Message -----
