IRAN:

2 face execution


2 men convicted of involvement in a recent bomb attack in the restive oil
city of Ahvaz are to be executed today, the official news agency Irna
reported.

The 2 men were convicted of a double bombing that rocked the city on
October 15 killing 6 people and injuring close to 100 others, Khuzestan
provinces deputy governor Mohsen Farokh-Nejad was quoted as saying.

He described them as "individuals with Wahabi and Salafist tendencies," a
reference to hardline Sunni Muslim ideologies that are fiercely opposed to
the Shiite branch of Islam dominant in Iran.
