As an outsider, I think that status in the project should be earned.
Status in the project should be earned by submiting code, patches,
formal test reports, and substantial detailed bug reports.

As an "open" project it would be wrong for Sun employees to be granted
official status simply because they are employees. Sun employees
should earn status in the community like everyone else. If they want
to be counted in this "open" project then they should be open about
what they are doing so that their status is clearly earned. It may be
that some Sun employees perform useful work but don't participate in
this open community and therefore should not be afforded status in it.

If OpenSolaris is not seen as an open project in which those outside
Sun are not afforded equal respect (based on ability and contribution)
to those inside Sun, then OpenSolaris will suffer compared with other
free operating systems.
