Steve, I'm using 2008.11 and was forced to compile Pidgin 2.5.5 myself because
of the recent problem with ICQ. I just want to let you know that it didn't
"compile fine" :) I had to install a bunch of different packages and not all of
them could be obtained through the Package Manager (I'm talking about the
necessity to get GNU gettext instead of Solaris). A few important tweaks (that
I wasn't aware of) were also needed and as I have no experience in compiling
C++ projects, it was really tedious to discover the way to my ultimate goal :/
If you are interested, you can have a look at the
http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=363399#363399 thread. So,
believe me, for most users lacking ICQ it would be really great if there was an
option to just update Pidgin via the Package Manager.
