I am very happy with CUPS on Solaris. I did compile my own though, and as a drop-in replacement for the Solaris print system (i.e. remove the Solaris print system packages and install CUPS in system locations such as /usr/bin /etc/cups /var/spool/cups). We are currently running 1.3.6, handling 62 printers for a number of Sun Rays and Linux workstations. Interestingly enough, in our setup, we've found that the Solaris CUPS server has been better than a CUPS server running on a Linux machine that we used to have (which could have been completely due to incorrect configuration). I can't really compare it to the Solaris print system though...CUPS was a must for us so I've never really used the Solaris print system. William Yang
