So you can't save the "dummy doc" as a template and then start a new
doc from the template, with the customized toolbar still there? I
haven't tested that myself yet, though I had intended to do so today.

Tried (under 2.4.1) saving *dummy* as template, and also customizing
while editing a template. Both worked uselessly: save accepted, but
customized menu never showed up again, even while editing the
template, much less in the new doc created from it. So, apparently
not. /tj
I've no problem with that, using OOo3beta_m4. I have defined a new
toolbar and a new menu in the template. Documents based on that template
have got that toolbar and that menu. Perhaps you missed some step? I can
send you the test template if you like.
Kind Regards

Regina,
Thank you. You are entirely correct. Using a better test, I have it
working under both 2.4.1 and 3.0 m3. *Provided*, that one avoids
hostile little glitches in the controls. In the Customize dialog, set
the "Save to" list to the template name (rather than Writer) *first*,
then do the customizing. In the Save As dialog, don't trust the
"Automatic Extension" checkbox when saving a template, even after you
select the proper (*.ott) extension from the list.
