https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-13701, right ?

Thanks

Jacques

Hi James,

First of all, thank you again for taking this initiative and your work on
it.

What I understood so far is that your objective is a combination of
statistical i formation gathering combined with some SEO activities to get
more landings on our relevant pages.

I would suggest documenting this stuff in wiki first and getting consensus
on it. For example you specify information like:
- what is the statistical data to track?
- what actions to take based on this data?
- what structural changes need to happen in our pages
- what content changes need to happen in our pages?
- How will this information be shared with the community?
- How will decisions and actions be carried out on a continuous basis to
fine-tune our pages?
- Anything else not mentioned here that you want to accomplish?

Cheers,

Taher Alkhateeb

Hi Michael,

My proposal for PMC to adopt analytics (open source or not) for the
development of this project, and hope to achieve the following:

1. Measure the (top X) number of visits to page paths by new visitors, and
arrange these links into a ‘Tour / Getting Started’ page. This allow new
visitors, faster access to a set of relevant info. Can update the content
in ‘Tour / Getting Started’ every x number of months. Also track and
improve the conversion rate from ‘Tour / Getting Started’ to the download
page.
2. Monitor the organic search keywords used by users. This allows better
roadmap planning for documentation and features, taking into account what
users search for.

I can provide initial help if required, and will relinquish the analytics
admin account when done.

Hi Jacques,

We can propose and discuss further what kind of reports are needed
for Wiki contribution.

Regards,
James Yong

Hi Michael,

It seems James had a plan, let's see what he proposes...

I'm not much worried about using Google Analytics in this case. We could
open the access to all Wiki contributors.

Hi Jacques,

as I have already mentioned

[...] before we take any technical action we should have a common
understanding what we want to achieve with this initiative, what we want to
get
out of it and who will take the responsibility for these tasks. If
there is no gain for the project and if this initiative will not be held
responsible by volunteers, it will be unnnecessary effort. [...]

I haven't seen any concrete plan so why should we start tracking?

Personally, I'm not very fond of giving away tracking infomations to
Google and propose to think about setting up a PIWIK instance for tracking,
if
we have a plan.

Michael

It seems we need to:

      - refer the privacy policy (either by the ASF or - if not
sufficient -
      our own)
      - have a option to opt out on our website (regarding cookie
policies).
I don't feel that a suggestion to add '"Google Analytics opt-out
browser
add-on' (as suggested in the JIRA issue) will be in the best
interest of
our project.

Just a feeling, or?

Jacques

Hi,
According to "7. Privacy" section under Google Analytics Terms
of
Service at
https://www.google.com/analytics/terms/us.html, we need to post
a
Privacy
Policy on the use of Google Analytics which uses cookies to
collect
anonymous data.

We can ask the users to install "Google Analytics opt-out
browser
add-on" at
https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout if they do not wish to
participate
or be tracked.

Reading the specifications in [1] implies tracking of user
information
like
ip address and location. So the first question to ask is .. do
we need
any
legal disclaimer? I don't speak legaleze so maybe we need
input from
specialists in that area?

The next question to ask is what do we need to track? What is
our
objective
or the information we want to capture? Is it simply a hit
count per
page?
Time spent? Others? And how should we share this information?
Do we
create
a frequency report?

I guess we lack an overall plan on this task. What do we want
to do
and
how
will we do it are important questions to answer before going
to the
trouble
of implementing this feature.

Hi James,

Maybe one thing we can do is attach the js script to the "no

header. It's showing on the top of every OFBiz wiki pages

there.

Hi,

I am not sure if this is possible. Would like to suggest
the use of
Google
Analytics in Confluence. This will allow the team/committee
to
gather
info
on the users' demographic, know the frequently accessed
wiki pages
and
give
insights on how to optimize user experiences with limited
manpower.
