Hi,

I have committed new Update XML feeds.
Update notifications for Mac OS X OpenOffice installed instances are now
deactivated due to a oversight on my side.

As I would like to consider the change in the supported architecture I will
work on a solution in the next days.

One possible solution: For the Mac OS update notifications, instead
of sending the user to the download page, send them to a special Mac
upgrade page. That page can explain that there is a new 4.1 release
but it has a new prereq for OS X Lion. This would be a very simple,
uncluttered page. Then it would have a link that says something like
"I have OS X 10.6 or above", which would then take them to the
download site.

If we keep it simple it could easily be translated for the native
language sites.

Yes, that would be a possible solution to our problem.

I also figured out that our update notification message in the application could display an additional custom text which can be provided via the Update XML feed.

The current message has two parts - status and description. The status is like this (e.g. for 4.0.0 English-US version):
<status>
OpenOffice 4.1.0 is available.

The installed version is OpenOffice 4.0.0.

Note: Before downloading an update, please ensure that you have sufficient access rights to install it.
A password, usually the administrator's or root password, may be required.
</status>

The description is like this (e.g. for 4.0.0 English-US version):
<description>
The automatic download of the update is currently not available.

Click 'Download...' to download OpenOffice 4.1.0 manually from the web site.
</description>

The description can be extended by further text provided by the Update XML feed.

I propose to include the following text for installed Mac OS X versions of OpenOffice:
<additional text>
Only for Mac OS X version 10.7 or never
</additional text>

Ideally, this additional text should be translated. As the text snippets ('Only for', 'version' and 'or never') are simple I would use Google translate to get the corresponding translations.

Any objections, include this additional text in our Update Notification message for installed Mac OS X versions?

I will already go ahead regarding my proposal as the release is out since last Tuesday and the update notification for installed OpenOffice instances on Mac OS X is not working since last Wednesday. I will immediately revert the corresponding changes, if objections are raised.

Best regards, Oliver.

Hi,

I am in preparation of the activation of the update notification for our
AOO 4.1.0 release for installed OpenOffice instances - versions 3.2.0,
3.2.1, 3.3.0, 3.4.0, 3.4.1, 4.0.0 and 4.0.1

Here is the list of the languages whose users will be guided to a
localized website from the update notification in OpenOffice:
- Czech        http://www.openoffice.org/cs/download
- German    http://www.openoffice.org/de
- Spanish    http://www.openoffice.org/es/descargar
- French    http://www.openoffice.org/fr/Telecharger
- Italian    http://www.openoffice.org/it/download
- Japanese    http://www.openoffice.org/ja/download
- Dutch        http://www.openoffice.org/nl/downloaden.html
- Portuguese (European)    http://www.openoffice.org/pt
- Slovak    http://www.openoffice.org/sk/download
- Turkish    http://www.openoffice.org/tr
- Chinese (simplified)    http://www.openoffice.org/zh-cn
- Chinese (traditional)    http://www.openoffice.org/zh-tw

As far as I can see the websites for the following languages need an
update for AOO 4.1.0
- French
- Japanese
- Dutch

Request to all native speakers of the above languages:
- Please have a look, if the localilzed website is ok.
- Please update the localized website, if needed - esp. for French,
Japanese and Dutch

My plan is to go live with the update notification for AOO 4.1.0
tomorrow early afternoon (14:00 UTC+2).

Please leave my a note, if the one or the other localized website should
be dropped or kept for the update notification.
Thanks in advance.

Best regards, Oliver.
