James Taylor commented on PHOENIX-8:
------------------------------------

bq. Is there any way to separate this out in a separate module so that both can
be easily generated from the same code base?
[~jeffreyz] can speak to this as well, but from the scope of the changes it
doesn't look like it would be worth the effort.

bq. 3.0 will be the version with backward compatibility going forward, right?
I'd love to answer that question as "sure, no problem", but the only committed
work here is 1) ensure that 3.0 can coexist with 2.x and 2) loosen up the
compatibility check such that we'll fail queries that attempt to use
functionality that's not supported by the server. Given the timeline for 3.0,
we won't be able to do more. It's still not clear to me how we'll be able to
implement major new features in a backward compatible manner. We'll need some
volunteers to help in this area if we want a better story than "we'll be
careful not to break things". We don't have the resources to QA all the
combinations that would need to be tested.

> Given the GitHub hosted Phoenix project is already up to the release series
> 2.0.x, I propose the first version of Phoenix released under the Apache roof
> should be 3.0.0.
