I am running FreeBSD and am installing SpamAssassin using the FreeBSD port p5-Mail-SpamAssassin. spamd runs fine for a few hours but then stops spawning new children and stops accepting connections (all spamc connections timeout until spamd is restarted). I've applied the patch and will see if this changes the behavior.
