I actually have some plans about spamd for 3.1, where the expires won't
happen in the scan/process child, but in a secondary "helper" child which the
parent spawns off.  ie: the scan child passes the information to the parent
than a sync/expire needs to occur, then the parent passes that to the helper
child to actually do the work.
