Dallas's patch seems to be providing some much needed relief for the systems
that I've seen affected by this issue. Furthermore, I think its just good form
to have the spamd children timeout after a period of time by default. I know
this is kind of a kludge for the real issue, but it seems workable and
reasonable. It's too bad that 3.0.1 is already out; I would've liked to see this
patch go into that release.
