In short, as we all know, it's time for a redesign.

[ ... Kenai problems ... ]

That also leads to another question: what are the constraints? i.e.,
what kind of system will we be working with when we do migrate? What
kind of content management system will it have? Will there be better
localization support for menus, etc? These things are still not clear,
and they will be important factors to be considered when creating the
design...
It depends a bit on how drastic a redesign would be, or whether it's a
refresh...

If Kenai offers new possibilities a general redesign should be considered.

But at the moment - with OOo3.2.1 to come - this should not be the focus IMHO.

which brings me back to the main question: when does the
redesign begin? :)

Now? ;-)

What we do need now is a new header that works well with the new logo.

It would be great if we had the time to include this in the branding efforts, but I don't think that the Branding Initiative will be able to define the basic landmarks for the new consistent look and feel during the next weeks.

Therefore I'd propose to create just a new header and work on the other elements collaboratively when Kenai and branding can provide their input.

But as others said before: I don't think it's necessary to wait for the new infrastructure to be in place. Discussing and deciding about possible new structures or elements on the website (provided that they are technically possible) could be done beforehand - and defining the general graphical approach (if it should be changed) too.

Best regards

Bernhard
