That's a very good point. But.... most people know where they live. And they know which council they're in. So it's equally true to say that they don't want to have to prat around finding the right website to report a fault, they should be able to do it all from their local authority's website.

Or, to put it another way, the likes of FixMyStreet[1] aren't in competition with council websites, they're an alternative route to the same end. And I think it's a good idea that the councils themselves should want to raise awareness of their own websites, since the more people who view them the more likely it is that there will public pressure for them to do it better.

[1] My spell-checker wanted to correct that to "Off street" or "streetwise", which is vaguely apt.
