Setup for the Gold and Silver cards is identical except for the encryption keys. Silver supports 40-bit encryption (or is it 64?), Gold supports 128-bit encryption[1]. That is the difference. So when you are using 'iwconfig' to enter an encryption key, the Gold cards can support a longer encryption key. The setup from the Linux side, though, is the same.
