Nonetheless, it's an official RedHat kernel, and not only that, the _latest_ official RedHat kernel for 7.0 (well, almost--the latest is actually 2.2.19-7.0.12, not -7.0.8, but I doubt that makes a difference). If Adaptec claim support for RedHat 7.0, they should support this kernel. Now, if they have drivers for 2.2.16, and source for those is available, it seems that it shouldn't be too difficult to compile them for 2.2.19--but (1) Adaptec should have done this already, and (2) it's entirely possible there's a snag somewhere. > Finally, I don't see why a hardware company that wants to keep > its hardware and methods proprietary, should be criticized for not > providing Who's criticizing? It seems much simpler than that--if they aren't willing to provide drivers for your desired OS, and you can't make them yourself, you have two choices: use different hardware, or use a different OS. > driver source code. If they're claiming compatibility with a particular version of a particular distro, they should provide drivers for all vendor-supplied kernels for that version, and certainly for the last one. If not, they really don't support that version. - -- Dan Brown, KE6MKS, [EMAIL PROTECTED] "Since all the world is but a story, it were well for thee to buy the more enduring story rather than the story that is less enduring." -- The Judgment of St. Colum Cille -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP 7.0.4 iQA/AwUBPHBUy36CI7gsQbX8EQIGkQCfeaf7F0xbxpJ2OmglaK+9Gv/wf5UAn1WD hWZamGkWVL9YdPdT4G1mdBUl =ZM/a -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- Please report bugs to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] (only) to discuss security issues Support for registered customers and partners to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives by mail and http://www.mail-archive.com/devinfo%40lists.e-smith.org
