Looks like its my turn now...ahem...thank you Scott for that prelude...
Tucows is currently planning on making both the .info AND .biz
'pre-registration' tools available to the channel on/around Monday, June 4,
2001. Understandably everyone is chomping at the bit to start offering
pre-reg to their registrants asap (that is of course if you aren't currently
offering it already)
By launching the tools on the 4th, it gives resellers approximately 3 weeks
to accept pre-reg (or transfer from the current mechanism they are using) as
.info sunrise and .biz domain application periods are scheduled to begin on
June 25.
FYI - the tools will be made available again as a modification of the
existing RWI (no client code available) For .info - all the necessary
additional fields can be found in the FAQ (all current reg fields will
apply) and for .biz...it will most likely be the same fields as current but
to be honest we still haven't received the dev specs yet - so i will have a
better idea for you early next week.
In addition, all the necessary Registrar - Reseller contracts will be
available on or before June 4 (I am hoping by end next week)
Thanks again for everyones feedback - I encourage everyone to comment on the
usefulness of the FAQ for .info and .biz - if there is anything else you
would like to see...please ask.
Rick

Taking pre-registrations now is a little risky in that you may have to
massage your data, or worse, re-touch all those customers to get a piece of
data imposed by the registry. Not that I am saying that risk is not worth
it. I suppose I would recommend that if you are not taking
pre-registrations yet, or do not plan to in the near future, you will be
well served as a minimum to ensure you customer base is well informed of
all the issues, and your plans.
Rick can comment as to how close we are to publishing a spec that can be
depended upon for these registrations, my understanding is that we are
quite close.
