I have done a fresh install of Hipster 2017.10 and Vbox 5.2.2 and the 5.2.2

try to find a system image on an NTFS formatted USB disk it doesn't see the
disk. Nor does it find the last DVD. It did once, but failed after reading
the first DVD. A number of other tries have not seen the DVD. I have
successfully done a system image recovery from the same USB hard drive earlier
today to a bare drive. I've also done a successful recovery from the DVDs to a
bare drive with the exact same setup.
CentOS 6.7 continues to produce a "no bootable media" error.
If anyone has done this successfully would you *please* post the particular
version of VBox that you use. I bought a Z400 because it was certified for
Solaris, so I don't *think* it is to blame.
I just successfully started an install of Hipster 2017.10 as a guest of Hipster
2017.10. WTF!!! It seems clear that Oracle munged things at some point. I
just need to know what version works with Windows and Linux. Once Hipster
installs under Hipster I think I'll go beat my head against the wall for a
while. After that I guess my next adventure will be to try installing Windows
7 as a guest of Windows 7.

BTW A couple of grumbles about the Hipster installer:
I just specified the root password a few minutes earlier, would you *please*
not expire it on the first use? I have a couple dozen OS instances including
Plan 9. I *really* do need to use the same root password.
I had to reboot to stop an install. Killing the install process was not enough. In
general, Solaris users are pretty savvy. Would you please not provide Microsoft style
"assistance"? I *do* actually know what I want to do. Sometimes I change my
mind and would like to go back and change something. I don't want to wait for an install
from a DVD to complete.
The really nice thing about traditional Unix was it respected its users. Picky about its
friends perhaps, but still respectful. Increasingly I see a "you're too stupid, so
we'll help you out" meme. It's *really* annoying.
Hi Reg.
I run VBox 5.1.30 headless on several omnios machines and once it is
installed there are zero issues. I run a mixture of Windows and Linux
machines as guests.
I couldn't get 5.2 to run on an older version of OI.
These are deployed as all-in-one systems for small businesses so I tend
to be pretty conservative before I upgrade to the current VBox version.
There are a couple of people that run vbox on hipster though.
