Excellent point Andrei. Our company puts usability under the research umbrella. We do call it out in our service offerings, because companies search for that term specifically. However, I've always been of the school of thought that usability analysis/testing is a research method. You'll find this in the way we run our studies as well—they're as much about exploratory research as they are about seeing if the participant can complete a task/goal. Cheers!
