I'd also add in an ability to use the scientific method in problem solving - form a hypothesis, create test cases that will enable gathering empirical data to backup those hypotheses, then decide whether the data prove or disprove that hypothesis before deciding that the hypothesis reflects reality, or repeating the process with a new hypothesis. Amusingly, though, even working in a basic research department filled with scientists, our users seem to be confused that such an approach can be applied to computers.
