I overheated my WRT54GL when it when sitting on top of my computer.
I moved it and it was ok.

I use tomato software with it I have not tweaked the wifi ro the
highest setting 80 -100mW is enough.

The overheating did not start until i got more squeezeboxes :-)

But a better location solved the problem.

I'm redoing my network right now, as every port was full and I want to
wire more stuff.

I discovered an underrated item the switch, eventually I plan to have
all wired stuff connected trough gigabit switches.
So that internal traffic between wired things never have to go trough
the routers internal switch (for now I use 2 ports on it).

I also use static ip an all non mobile things as servers and wired
players and desktop, so I figure that I will have most of the network
intact even if the router goes down .

Sorry for hijacking the tread with similar issues.

My linksys is also getting old I think.

What do you think about the "ASUS RT-N16" .
Spec looks decent inbuilt gigabit switch fast N networking enough cpu
to actually do the switching effortlessly 2 USB ports.
And capable of running DD wrt firmware .

I do love the tomato router firmware, but it's basically a one person
operation so tomato have not got into N networking yet.
