I hear you, although since several free alternatives have been
mentioned already it sounds like simplicity is at least equally
important to you. That's a hard call because one person's simplicity is
another person's complexity.

I don't think anyone has mentioned winamp yet. It's free, and a lot of
people like it, though I don't. There's also Songbird, which supports
FLAC, but I'm not sure if it burns CDs.
