Which is why that function should be provided by a tagger (perhaps
aided by a side database, but not the one that slimserver uses for its
own purposes).

The slim database contains information for slims primary purpose as a
music streamer ... that is, what format is the music in, what encoding,
what bitrate, all stuff that you as a collector of music don't care
about and wouldn't keep in your own database. It also contains some
overlapping material - primarily so it knows what to show you on the
screen while it's playing your song.

It isn't meant to be a replacement for a music database, and it
shouldn't be misconstrued as such.
