Hello,
Hey, thanks. Boy, I'll tell you, this is really strange. I mentioned
to the Support Tech that others were also having this problem.
He thinks that it probably has to do with permissions. All the
suggestions he gave, I already did.
Here are the suggestions.
1. Try deleting a tune from within iTunes in a new or another account.
And see what the results are. I found that they are the same. The
deletion problems still exist.
2. Download the latest iTunes and install it over the old install
without changing or erasing the preferences or any other settings.
Still the same results. The deletion problem has not gone away.
So at this point, I'm going to call him and also email the results to
him.
He said that perhaps an OS reinstall was in the offing. And that if I
do a reinstall, this time, archive and install, is the method he
suggests. If this fails, then an erase and install might be next.
He admitted that he didn't really know why this was happening. And I
reminded him that others are having the same problems, while still
others are not having any iTunes deletion problems at all.

Hello Scott, Dave and others,
I just got off the phone after about 2 hours. Am still trying to get
to the bottom of this whole problem of some people having problems
with iTunes not truly deleting items.
I am going to follow a few procedures given to me this morning and
then contact the Level II Support Person and let him know how things
are going. Then after that I'll get back to the list. May not be till
sometime Monday afternoon.

Hi Dave,
You bet. I'll report back to the list.
However, as I said in my earlier post, I am going to do this
tomorrow morning. I find that if I leave plenty of time to discuss
things with the Apple Reps, things go much better. And I'd rather
get to the bottom of this if I can.
So, at some point tomorrow, either way, that is, with or without a
resolution I'll let you all know.

Dan,
I'll be interested in what transpires. I find this to be a most

Hello,
I have seen this problem on another one of my Macs as well and I
have
no idea what to do.
Other than manually removing files after they've been removed from
the
library and supposedly put in trash, I just manually remove them
through finder and then delete the trash.
In other words, it's a rather unnecessary bother.

Yep, deleting from finder wouldn't work because there'd be a load
of
broken shortcuts left in your library. Our problem is that, even
though we're deleting from within itunes, finder isn't keeping
it's
end of the deal and trashing the files for us. The result is
that,
though the files no longer show up in our libraries because the
shortcuts get deleted there, they're still cluttering up our
itunes
music folder taking up space. I mean as long as I'm aware of
it I
can
keep track of things, but it would be nice to figure out why this
isn't working.

This is odd. I know in the beginning, I was having trouble
with
deleting items I wanted out of iTunes, but I read a support
article
or
some kind of document that explained that the best way to do
this
was
to do it directly in iTunes and to empty the trash
afterwards. I
have
not had any issues since then.

I get this behaviour here too, dan isn't the only one. I just
tested
it by importing a new album, checking it was all organised
correctly
in the itunes music folder through finder, and checking for
dupes
in
itunes (there were none because I'm obsessively tidy with the
library
lol). When I deleted the album from within itunes and answered
yes to
the move to trash prompt, the album disappears from my library,
but
can still be found in the exact same location of the itunes
music
folder, so I had to trash it myself from finder and empty
trash.
So the good news is Dan that you're not alone. Bad news is
that I
have no clue why this happens. Could it be a permissions thing
maybe?
Anyone?

Hello,
Yep, that's what I'm doing. Then I found them still in the
library
after first deleting them from within iTunes and also
answering
yes
to the trash prompt.
Strange.

Hi
As
far as I have found, if you delete items directly in iTunes
from
the main music library and confirm the deletion and then
having
them moved to the Trash, they are gone for good, unless
you
have
a copy of that file somewhere else on your computer. The
thing
is you must do this in iTunes and not simply delete the
files
using finder from the iTunes music folder.

Hello everyone,
When Items are deleted from iTunes and also put in trash,
they
don't really go away. If you snoop around in the iTunes
library
under for example Music, you will find all kinds of items
that
should have been deleted. I wish there really was a way to
truly
delete items, instead of them still taking up loads os
space.
