Well my friend, neither of us knows what to say, so we'll say nothing; for now that is. My hope is Apple now aware of the problem can begin tracking it down and figuring this out. I'm not overly sure it's a permissions problem or not, but it's possible, but then anything is possible at this point. My thought is a bug in the program, which makes sense.

Hello Scott,
I don't really know what to say. One thing's for sure, there really is a problem. Even had the same problem on my older Mac mini PPC 1.42 GHz machine. And I also spoke with a friend who has the same problem on two of his machines and they are both 24 inch 2.8 GHz iMacs like mine.

Dan, I've done a little experimenting with this. Seems some content does disappear after being prompted to remove and then the other prompt to chuck it into the trash. However, in a couple of cases it seemed that I was only prompted to remove it and I found the files left behind. What I am wondering is if there is duplication in the library perhaps. I couldn't be sure of this because by the time I figured out what was going on, I couldn't go back to confirm easily. I don't believe this is the case, but the behavior does seem odd. So, I can confirm what your saying, but not to the same degree and hopefully if there's a bug, Apple will find and square things away.
Thanks for keeping us posted.

Hello Scott, Dave and others,
Here is another update on the iTunes deletion problem.
Just a moment ago, I got email regarding the Deletion problem that some are having with iTunes. The Level II person with whom I've been discussing this problem has just informed me that This problem has been escalated to engineering. That's it for now. So perhaps a future update might take care of this problem.

Hello Scott, Dave and others,
I just got off the phone after about 2 hours. Am still trying to get to the bottom of this whole problem of some people having problems with iTunes not truly deleting items. I am going to follow a few procedures given to me this morning and then contact the Level II Support Person and let him know how things are going. Then after that I'll get back to the list. May not be till sometime Monday afternoon.

Hi Dave,
You bet. I'll report back to the list.
However, as I said in my earlier post, I am going to do this tomorrow morning. I find that if I leave plenty of time to discuss things with the Apple Reps, things go much better. And I'd rather get to the bottom of this if I can. So, at some point tomorrow, either way, that is, with or without a resolution I'll let you all know.

Hello,
I have seen this problem on another one of my Macs as well and I have
no idea what to do.
Other than manually removing files after they've been removed from the
library and supposedly put in trash, I just manually remove them
through finder and then delete the trash.
In other words, it's a rather unnecessary bother.

Yep, deleting from finder wouldn't work because there'd be a load of broken shortcuts left in your library. Our problem is that, even though we're deleting from within itunes, finder isn't keeping it's end of the deal and trashing the files for us. The result is that,
though the files no longer show up in our libraries because the
shortcuts get deleted there, they're still cluttering up our itunes music folder taking up space. I mean as long as I'm aware of it I
can
keep track of things, but it would be nice to figure out why this
isn't working.

This is odd. I know in the beginning, I was having trouble with deleting items I wanted out of iTunes, but I read a support article
or
some kind of document that explained that the best way to do this
was
to do it directly in iTunes and to empty the trash afterwards. I
have
not had any issues since then.

I get this behaviour here too, dan isn't the only one. I just
tested
it by importing a new album, checking it was all organised
correctly
in the itunes music folder through finder, and checking for dupes
in
itunes (there were none because I'm obsessively tidy with the
library
lol). When I deleted the album from within itunes and answered
yes to
the move to trash prompt, the album disappears from my library, but can still be found in the exact same location of the itunes music folder, so I had to trash it myself from finder and empty trash.

So the good news is Dan that you're not alone. Bad news is that I have no clue why this happens. Could it be a permissions thing
maybe?
Anyone?

Hello,
Yep, that's what I'm doing. Then I found them still in the
library
after first deleting them from within iTunes and also answering
yes
to the trash prompt.
Strange.

Hi
As
far as I have found, if you delete items directly in iTunes
from
the main music library and confirm the deletion and then having them moved to the Trash, they are gone for good, unless you
have
a copy of that file somewhere else on your computer. The
thing
is you must do this in iTunes and not simply delete the files
using finder from the iTunes music folder.

Hello everyone,
When Items are deleted from iTunes and also put in trash, they
don't really go away. If you snoop around in the iTunes
library
under for example Music, you will find all kinds of items that should have been deleted. I wish there really was a way to
truly
delete items, instead of them still taking up loads os space.
