The issue is that the server-manager uses an old framework called
FormMagick that is both difficult/awkward to use and a barrier to a lot
of people writing contribs.

If you have tried to build a panel then you may know. If you have not
then I really suggest you give it a try to find out for yourself why we
are all agreed it needs changing. There are probably others here who
will give you a lot of good technical reasons why it should be changed.

I for one can just about write a CLI contrib, but trying to write a
panel loses me completely. So I just haven't bothered. It is an issue
that has cropped up consistently, and is a barrier to new developers
working with SME.

It is something we have long wanted to address. We want people to be
able to develop contribs and other code using a modern and easy to
understand framework, and in a language that they are familiar with.

And we all agree it looks dated and should be replaced. Unfortunately,
eye candy sells..... We would like something responsive too.

Mojolicious is one route using perl

Cockpit is a completely different route

Are there other systems out there ?

The fact that the server-manager could do with replacing is not really
in any question between the main developers. What to replace it with is
the subject of the debate.
