Waiting more time to start a beta period is never a good idea. The more we wait, the more difficult is to have a stable version. It is not because a release is availabel that users HAVE TO upgrade. Saying to wait because a new amazing feature will come is also not a good reason to delay. There is always amazing and important feature in the pipe.
The fact is user rely on roadmap. And roadmap say we will launch the beta if everything looks stable enough to start a beta. And it is. Currently i am not aware of critical troubles, nor in 3.8.2, nor in 3.9 branch, so there is no reason to not follow the good practice "release early, release often". If i missed such problems, it will be interesting to have them reported on github bug tracker (note the old tracker on doliforge has been adandonned). Then the argument "we must start beta later because we need to do more test", is just a bad argument. The goal of the beta is to "start test". So the more we wait to start the beta, the less we make test. So let's test the version now the freeze so the fix/bug period has started and fix the more you can. The annouce of the freeze for future 3.9 just means: "We don't need features developers, new features will not be introduced, we need testers and bug fixers" and it seems everybody agrees with that, so we are going in same direction. PS: Adding phpunit tests is not adding new feature, so you can submit such PR. 2015-12-07 21:32 GMT+01:00 Olivier Geffroy <[email protected]>: > Hi all, > > why launch the 3.9 ? > we have a lot of problems with 3.8, it's disturbing for users.
