Thanks Wim,

That's very useful information.

Yes we certainly didn't want to encourage domain warehousing, 99% of our
orders are for 1 or 2 domains. However we made the 'most popular' list of
del.icio.us / digg and 90+ blogs. We hit 17'000 sessions on our form before
we had to close it. The marketing was a little too successful I guess.

We have stopped everything now but really wanted to find out the Tucows
position on this promotion. Do they want us registrars to go all out like
this? I see that the few we had left in the queue are still sitting there. I
have this feeling the Belgium Registry are sitting there thinking what a
headache they just gave themselves for the next two months!

Hi,

DNS BE doesn't allow you to do any kind of domain warehousing. Any customer
who
does such a thing, will have to pay the full DNS BE pricing (which costs
6EUR
for the registrar). The registrar is allowed to register 10 domains for
himself
during the 'free' period.

I'm not sure about the Tucows API, but if you're trying to find out if a .be
domain is available, don't use WHOIS. DNS BE has a nice system called DAS
(Domain Availability System). More details can be found :
http://www.dns.be/en/home.php?n=317
You can query DAS as many times as you like (well, don't go over 50 times
per
second or they will block it, but as long as you stay reasonable...)

Kind regards,
