Domains transferred away should have been updated to the new contact information by the receiving registrar (who may be the only entity who *has* that information). Whenever I have transferred domains _to_ Tucows, the contact information was automatically updated by the very process of transferring, as should happen everywhere. I also had this happen with a no-name registrar; I had to walk the registrant through changing this (since I still had contact information). It made me nuts too, since I was getting admin e-mails for a domain I had no control over; I can see why the OP wanted to rant...
