I know newlib has some support for non-Linux embedded targets, e.g. those without an OS, I don't know if uClibc does. http://buildroot.uclibc.org/about.html looks useful, but there's something about understanding how to get cross-compilation going yourself, especially if you want to examine and tinker with the code it's producing.
