The GIT version under Gentoo is using a live ebuild (i.e. I am not directly installing from GIT, but rather the ebuild is pulling down GIT sources and building it from there and installing to proper locations). If I were to try and do this by hand on my production system, I'm not sure what to do to install to correct locations without breaking other things. Is there some other detail/test I can provide/try first?
