If not, I'll try the > manual GIT build/install. You don't need to install the dri driver. You can set LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH env var to mesa/lib and libGL will pick it up from there. In case the libGL is incompatible with the new driver (there were some changes some time ago, can't remember when exactly) I guess you can force loading the right libGL with LD_LIBRARY_PATH or LD_PRELOAD.
